about

“Opening To The Infinite” expresses a sense of the mysterious, a fascination with the unknown. The themes involve alien abduction, encounters with the spirit world, and unexplainable occurrences such as happen in dreams. The song touches on important existential questions and how light shines through the darkness. When I was 16 years old, I had a profound dream in which I was taken on a flying saucer, encountered alien beings, and was taught things concerning the nature of reality. This experience has stuck with me throughout my life, shaping the way I view the cosmos and giving me a deep sense of wonder. The song stems from these kinds of otherworldly, inter-dimensional experiences. My friend Dustin Silva, from Portland, OR, recorded electric guitar and background vocals for this song.

lyrics

a peculiar light hanging over the hillside
all your friends got scared but you went on
spinning in the air, frozen still with a blank stare
had a feeling you might see God

and the last thing I can remember
she was taking a part of me
when the world gets hit with disaster
we will open a better way

I can see you there
sitting under the arm chair
staring at me with wicked eyes
puzzled by your face
standing out in the cold rain
always looking for some way in

The Soft Hills Los Angeles, California

LA-based project The Soft Hills create a visceral take on soft-psych indie rock, calling to mind the hypnotic melancholy of the Red House Painters as well as contemporaries like Grizzly Bear or Radiohead.

Songwriter Garrett Hobba started the project in Seattle in 2007. The band, which involves a rotating door of friends and musicians, has toured several times through the US and Europe.
